Tour Of Britain 2016 Sidmouth to Haytor – Club Ride 9/10/16

Tour Of Britain 2016 Sidmouth to Haytor

This year the Tour of Britain is back in Devon and as always Mid Devon Cycling Club will offer the members the chance to experience riding the stage on Sunday 9th October 2016 starting in Sidmouth on East Devon’s Jurassic Coast, the modified stage will cover 113-kilometres or 70 miles of gruelling Devon countryside, finishing with a climb at Haytor, a repeat of 2013’s summit finish. It will take in a number of communities en route, including Ottery St Mary, Tiverton, Crediton, Moretonhampstead and Bovey Tracey.

Many of you will remember the successful day we had riding the 2013 stage from Sidmouth to Dartmoor, the new route for 2016 will be sure to pose a host of new challenges for everyone. With plenty of climbing and fast descents on narrow roads, this club event promises to be a great day out and one not to miss.

  • The modified route will leave Sidmouth and follow the TOB route to Ottery St Mary. In Ottery St Mary we will take the B3177 road to Honiton joining the old A30 and pick up the road signs leading to Awiliscombe.
  • Recommence TOB route from Awilscombe to Crediton via Willand, Halberton, Tiverton, Bickleigh, and Cadbury Hill.
  • Crediton to Tedburn St Mary via Venny Valley.
  • Tedburn St Mary to Whiddon Down on the old A30 but with detour avoiding Crockernwell.
  • Whiddon Down through to Mortonhampstead and onto Bovey Tracey via main road.
  • Haytor for those who would like the challenge.
