Great Success at the Velopark

Mid Devon Cycling Club hosted the 1st South West circuit racing back at the Torbay Velopark. It was a highly successful  event with riders enjoying some good conditions at the Velopark. In total, there were 15 races across 25 different categories in line with  British Cycling Covid guidelines with many categories enjoying 2x 30 minute races totalling over 10 hours of racing across the day making it fast and exciting. 

Youth categories started the day with MDCC members Charlotte Ward, Freddie Simcock and William Ward all competing in the under 8 category. Under 10 boys saw a clean sweep for Mid Devon with 1st James Allen, 2nd Benjamin Simcock 3rd Ben Ward. Under 10 girls saw Lauren Fox take a win and Maddy Woodger coming 4th.

MDCC continued their strong presence in the youth categories with Jacob Start winning both under 12 races with Bayley Woodger 2nd in both races. Edward Fraile-Whysall achieved 3rd and 5th his two races as an under 14 along with Edward Wellstood and Joesph Edwards with top ten finishes in both races.

Under 14 girls saw 4 strong performances from Molly Lane, Anna Lane,  Grace Ward and Eva Fox with Molly winning both races, Anna 2nd and 4th, Grace 3rd and 2nd and Eva 3rd and 4th in both races.

Under 16 boys saw Henry Howells being very competitive in both races with top ten finishes in both races and Archie Goodwin and Archie McGrath both showing good improvements.

We had a good strong turn out of Junior/Senior riders with many top ten finishes across both races and different categories with Harry Jukes, Ruben Heal, Callum Start, James Pearcy, Georgie Savva, Ollie Masters, Jake Durant, Andrew Hitchens, Rob McPgherson and Karl Allen -Dobson all  competing  for Mid Devon.

Jake Durant showed his experience in the 3rd category with a solo breakaway just before the last lap and stayed away for a good victory. James Pearcy got two 3rds in 4th category in his first outing for Mid Devon.

The next racing  event at Torbay Velopark with be in May.
