Primavera Road Race – Early Season Leg Tester – 28th Feb 2016

This year instead of  the Springtime Pursuits that have been the traditional “opener” to the South West road race calendar the MDCC are promoting one day of early season races on Sunday 28nd February.  With the headquarters at Hatherleigh, the heart of Devon’s Red Ruby Cattle Country there are races available for all categories.

It is an ideal opportunity to stretch the legs on rolling Devon roads – not too long but long enough to see if the winter training has been working.

All 3 races will be run in the morning and concurrently. By careful planning of the start times and by using different distances all races should finish without another race catching them. E/1/2/3 starts at 10.00 and will cover 53 miles. Cat 3 and 4 will start next and cover 42 miles and the Women, whose race will be handicapped into at least 2 groups, will start last and cover 30 miles.

All races will have accredited marshals

All races will go westwards passing Highampton, prime, then onward to Beara Cross, Dunsland Cross, Halwill Junction, prime, and back to Beara Cross. The course then repeats the circuit to Halwill Junction, prime, but goes straight on to Thorndon and down the steep descent of Tanners Hill with its tricky “S” bends at the bottom before climbing the equally steep Yelland Hill – perhaps here the decisive race move will happen.
